You have such an interesting and diverse background, i wonder why this Cowboy School? It is actually very informative, thank you!
I used the lesson in an English as a foreign language class with Thai students in Thailand. Thais associate cowboys with the US as does the whole world. I figured its a f way to get the very shy Thai students to talk and have fun. Krashen is the foremost second language teaching theorist and describes and affective filter. When students are stressed this interferes with language activities. I find high interest thematic units were the students “become” a character with cosplay and naming activities leads to a chilled class! My college does intensive English in the summer. No credit! Thailand is hot, hot, hot in the summer. This class is for the 1st year students before they take academic classes in the fall. ATTENDANCE much less effort is a problem. I made the ultimate high interest workbook and I never had a problem with attendance unlike pretty much everyone else. Unfortunately my ideas are a little too experimental for my Thai boss. We are using a standard workbook which is the sort of workbook the Thais hate after 6-12 years of using such workbooks! I will probably stop teaching in the summer. The workbook is at:
